Semester 1 Foundation Numeracy · Assessment Tool Reference
A Progression Point (PP) is a numeric indicator of a student's overall progress across all assessed clusters. It is calculated as a weighted average of individual cluster scores, where clusters with more elements carry greater weight.
The maximum possible PP is 0.50.
Each cluster receives a score based on how many of its elements the student has been rated as Good or Mastered.
| Scenario | Example (4 elements) | Cluster PP |
|---|---|---|
| More than half Good/Mastered | 3 of 4 = 75% | 0.5 |
| Exactly half Good/Mastered | 2 of 4 = 50% | 0.0 |
| Less than half Good/Mastered | 1 of 4 = 25% | 0.0 |
The overall PP is a weighted average across all clusters. Clusters with more elements contribute proportionally more to the final score.
| Cluster 1 (2 elements) | PP = 0.5 |
| Cluster 2 (4 elements) | PP = 0.5 |
| Cluster 3 (3 elements) | PP = 0.5 |
| Cluster 1 (2 elements) | PP = 0.5 |
| Cluster 2 (4 elements) | PP = 0.0 |
| Cluster 3 (3 elements) | PP = 0.5 |
Both cluster PP badges and the overall PP badge use the same three visual states:
| Badge | State | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0 | No entries | No elements assessed yet |
| 0.0 | In progress | Some elements rated, but not all complete |
| 0.5 | Complete | Every element has been given a rating |
| Status | Counts toward Good/Mastered threshold? |
|---|---|
| Mastered | Yes |
| Good | Yes |
| Weak | No |
| Missed | No |
| — | No (also marks cluster as incomplete) |
| Term | Cluster | Element |
